Support for Children Without Placement

Children Without Placement

Children in the foster care system are often placed with relatives, foster families, or in licensed facilities. However, we have begun to see some of our Travis County foster teens have no placement options available to them. In these situations these teens are considered children without placement. They are supervised by CPS employees/caseworkers, not family or trained caregivers, and are located at hotels or leased properties like houses or condos. In Travis County there is only one hotel willing to allow children without placement to be there and all the other Travis County foster teens without placement are located outside of their home community.

Children without placement are often moved around from location to location, causing changes in school, friends, and service providers. They do not stay in one location long enough to get stability and focus on just being a typical teenager. On average, there are about five teenagers every day from Travis County who would love to be in a home environment and receive support from their community. Travis County can work together to support these teens.
